PRESS STATEMENT-Justice for Barotse Activists
NATIONAL RESTORATION PARTY
JUSTICE FOR BAROTSE ACTIVISTS
The decision by the Patriotic Front administration to move the Barotse activists from Mongu to Mwembeshi is wrong and should be reversed. This decision is a double punishment not only for the activists, but also for the relatives and friends of the incarcerated persons who will have to incur additional transport and costs to visit their family members in Mwembeshi.
Before Zambia attained her independence, the colonial administration was fond of using the tactic of moving prisoners from one province to another and this was always a sign of lack of their lack of popularity and was driven by a sense of fear of the community in which they were operating. The PF administration should consider carefully how they handle this matter and aim to promote dialogue to resolve the grievances of the Barotse activists. Like all of us, they too deserve justice.
