THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE SERIES ISSUE NUMBER 3: TOLERATING CORRUPTION Introduction The third instalment in our Parallel Universe Series focuses on corruption. We remind everyone that our intention is not primarily to demonstrate that the PF have failed to live up to their campaign and governance promises but to refocus them of their obligations and responsibilities to the Zambian people in the face of severe hardships being experienced by the majority

THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE SERIES ISSUE NUMBER 2: DELIVERING A PEOPLE DRIVEN CONSTITUTION Introduction We continue with our second instalment in our “Parallel Universe Series” in which we point out the issues that the Patriotic Front are expected to address now that they are in power, in order to ensure that they live up to their governance responsibilities to the people.

THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE SERIES ISSUE NO. 1: THE MEALIE-MEAL CRISIS IN ZAMBIA Introduction As promised, we set out the first in a series of 10 statements that we have entitled: “The Parallel Universe Series”. The term “parallel universe” is normally used in a non-complementary manner. It suggests that someone is out of touch with reality. When NAREP held a press conference on 10 January 2013 to deliver our New Year message, we challenged the Patriotic Front to stop focussing on political domination (for example, through triggering unnecessary by-elections) and to prioritise development actions. We then gave several examples of people’s expectations and pointed out that it was not our intention to see the PF fail because if they failed, it would be the people who would suffer.

2013 – THE YEAR AHEAD FOR NAREP AND ZAMBIA STATEMENT DELIVERED ON THURSDAY 10 JANUARY 2013 BY NATIONAL RESTORATION PARTY PRESIDENT ELIAS C. CHIPIMO, JNR In search of honest men and women Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I start this morning’s press conference with a quotation from the Book of Jeremiah (5:1). It reflects our theme for 2013 – the NAREP Year of Action: “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city”.

DE-REGISTRATION OF THE MOVEMENT FOR MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY A problem a day seems to be created in Zambia. What is unfortunate is that nearly all of these problems are man-made. As a nation we are now facing a potential crisis as a result of the decision by the Registrar of Societies to de-register Zambia’s second longest-serving political party, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).
A LUST FOR POWER – Statement by the National Restoration Party on the poaching of MMD Members of Parliament-Tuesday 20 November 2012

It has been said that politics has strange bedfellows but few things can be stranger than what we are currently being forced to witness as citizens of a nation with very serious developmental challenges. It is nothing short of alarming that in the midst of crushing poverty, persistent and increasing load-shedding, widespread lack of access to clean water, poor infrastructure in peri-urban and rural areas, appalling health services, deep-rooted corruption and massive unemployment, we can have a so-called pro-poor administration advocating the defection of MP’s from the ranks of the Opposition in order to trigger by-elections at enormous expense to our treasury.

Beyond Change: Towards Transformation Ladies and gentlemen. Invited guests. Fellow Zambians. It is indeed both an honour and a pleasure for me to welcome you all to the official launch and presentation of the vision of the National Restoration Party, a party that we believe will transform the way politics is conducted in this country. I know you are all probably wondering why we have found it necessary to launch yet another political party. Before explaining the reasons for this decision, let me say a little about the background to the journey we feel compelled to undertake.
CHIPOLOPOLO AND AFCON 2013 EARNING RESPECT AS A SOCCER POWERHOUSE!

CHIPOLOPOLO AND AFCON 2013 EARNING RESPECT AS A SOCCER POWERHOUSE It is hard to be Zambian and not be excited about the prospects of our national soccer team at the 2013 CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The continent’s premier annual soccer event kicked off in South Africa yesterday with many pundits either writing off our chances this time round or simply ignoring us as a factor in the line up of tournament favourites. Many have adopted the assumption that our status as current champions will be remembered as a short-lived aberration – a fluke. We can’t let that happen. It is our collective responsibility as players, coaching staff, fans and citizens to show the continent and the world, how wrong this assumption is. That is why I am taking an unusual deviation from politics to write about football.
